Today, Thursday, June 26, 2008, @ 8:PM (Eastern Time) our dear brother Melvin Jones, from www.pulpit-pimps.org , will have a real time debate - with a full preterist by the name of Don Preston.
June 26, 2008, 8 PM (Eastern Time):
Covenant Radio will be hosting another Eschatology debate between Don Preston and Melvin Jones. This broadcast will be live as usual at http://live.covenantradio.com
Debate details:
Don Preston:
Resolved: The Bible Teaches that the New Heaven and Earth arrived at the time of the passing of the Old Covenant World of Israel at the destruction of Jerusalem in A.D. 70.
Melvin Jones:
Resolved: The Bible teaches that the New Heaven and Earth is yet future, and will occur at the end of the 1000 year Messianic reign of Christ on the earth.
Mr. Preston is apparently well known in both Preterist and debating circles. It should be interesting at the very least.

The ruts of tradition are indeed deep. So deep in fact that our Christian brothers cannot see out. Their view is either straight ahead or straight back. Either way, all that is seen is the rut. The Preterists are attempting to help those to get out of the ruts. While the majority refuses to come, more and more are seeing the truth and are in a paradigm shift.
God Bless

What rut?
You see it goes like this. Why would anyone be in a state of confusion after reading the bible and fully understanding it. Do I need someone to tell me that I am in a rut? It could be that those who are not content with plain bible have not really considered their connection to the God of the bible. Like I said; what rut?

Although well meaning, preachers and laypeople teach false doctrines without seeing how they are staying from the text of the Bible. As this is passed from generation to generation, These ruts of tradition become a track that is rarely questioned or deviated from. Can one climb out of these ruts on their own? Yes. Rarely one may catch a glimpse above the ruts and then work his way out in time. More often one who is not confined by the ruts of tradition may reach out a have to help his brother climb out and see for himself the direction in which the goal lies.
Three Main Obstacles
Today we have three main obstacles that hinder our understanding of the Bible. The first is the language barrier. We don’t have a perfect understanding of the ancient languages they wrote in. However, today our knowledge of these languages is better than it has been since these languages went out of common use. Archaeological discoveries shed new light on the way these languages were used in everyday life.
The King James Version was written in 1611. At that time few manuscripts were available for use in translation, and the knowledge of ancient Hebrew and Greek was limited. Since that time, our knowledge of these languages has grown in leaps and bounds. Further, the ancient manuscripts our scholars have to work with today are thousands in number and can be dated much earlier than those used in 1611.
With all of the word study reference books we have today, the average layperson can gain a fairly good understanding of the original text if the desire is strong enough. But even these fine works can have problems, as even our great theologians and Christian scholars are not immune to preconceived ideas.
This brings us to our second main obstacle, Preconceived ideas or paradigms. This is what the ruts are literally. Paradigms are something we all live in. Several hundred years ago everybody knew the world was flat, and anyone teaching otherwise was regarded as a lunatic or worse. They also knew the sun revolved around the flat earth. That was a paradigm.
Today this paradigm is no longer held but has made a shift to where we realize the earth is spherical and revolves around the sun. Through the history of man, myths have been concocted and later exploded due to the increased knowledge and awareness man has of his surroundings. Man’s religious beliefs are certainly not an exception to this rule.
The third obstacle is the use of bad or inconsistent hermeneutics. Far too many think that they are the ones to whom the scriptures were written. Far too many passages are pulled out of context and evaluated by what is in the newspapers or on TV. Far too many have an apparent disability to differentiate between literal and figurative language. Far too many have a poor knowledge of history. Far too many have a poor understanding of the nature of
the covenant, and so, do not consider this all- important concept when reading the Bible.
