When Is Enough, Enough?
Written by: Deacon Tim Butler
It never ceases to amaze me how the so-called people of God could continue to put up with some of the shenanigans that we see displayed in many of the Churches today. No, it’s not every church, but it is far too many of them. Many pastors refuse to preach holiness and the need for repentance. When was the last time you heard a sermon on repentance? I would venture to say, a very long time or perhaps never.
It’s “funny” how the Jesus of the bible came to preach, “Repentance, for the kingdom of God is at hand”. And John The Baptist, the forerunner of Jesus also preached repentance to a sinful world. Yes, repentance is rough, but the word of God is supposed to be sharper than any two-edge sword, cutting and dividing even the very soul and spirit, and the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. How is it then that only a few people are being cut, little if any are being convicted, and there is little change when it comes to living holy. But rather it seems on the contrary that people are leaving church service feeling good about their sinful lives. They are feeling like it’s okay to live their lives any way they want, because God understands.
