DOES GOD STILL COMMAND
US TO PAY (10%) TITHE
UNDER THE “NEW TESTAMENT” COVENANT?
Written by Sister Lessie Myles
Testimony
This is my testimony. When I was a child, I watched my mother faithfully pay (10%) of her income to the church we attended. I listened to the leaders preach (Malachi 3: 8-10). You know the scripture. Will a man rob God? They taught that if you paid (10%) of your income and everything that came across your hands to the church, that God would pour you out a blessing that you would not have room to receive. But that was not what I witnessed. What I witnessed was my mother died as a very poor woman. She did not receive her financial blessing after paying tithes for more than forty (40) years. She died and her “ship” never came in…
The (10%) Tithe Law was created for the Priestly order of the Levitical Law. The law itself was good, but the priest who watched over the (10%) income of the people eventually became greedy and they took advantage of them. This is why the scriptures in Malachi 3:8 ask the question, “Will a man rob God”. If you would begin reading (Malachi 2:1) to (Malachi 3:8), you would find that God was speaking about the priests robbing Him. Jesus is our New Covenant “High Priest.” Jesus declares the New Covenant is “Better!” (Heb 8:6)
New Testament
“Liberty” in Giving
The Apostle Paul, being filled with the Holy Ghost, is led by Spirit of God to set in motion all the “Rules and Doctrines” we are to adhere to under the New Covenant. Paul was a zealot and well educated religious man under the Old Testament Law, and having full understanding of the significance of the monumental change that occurred after Christ’s death. Paul went to great lengths to explain to new converts the difference in the two covenants. You will not find one single scripture where the Apostle Paul instructs Gentiles to give (10%) of their incomes to the church. Under the New Covenant, Paul, under the direction of the Holy Ghost, sets up “Free-Will” giving. Paul teaches that Christ’s “Grace” freed us, as Believers from the law. In reference to giving, Paul instructs Gentiles in (2 Cor. 9:5-8) to allow the Holy Ghost to inspired them to give generously, and in doing so, they experienced the “Liberty” we all have in Christ…

When God isnpires us to act on His behalf, His message will not come back void. I have received many phone calls, comments of congratulations and encouragement from those who read my article on “Tithing” and have come to believe we are under the New Testament Coventant, in oppose to the Old Covenant. God hears our cries, and He attends to our prayers when we are deeply troubled about certain practices of the church that are turned into opportunities of abuse towards God’s children. God will not abandon us. He refreshes and restores us to the “Liberty” He lovingly gave to us through Christ’s great Sacrifice on the Cross. I am very delighted to be a “Fruit-Bearer” and “Servant” of the Most High, not afraid to share the wisdom God has given to me through prayerfully seeking His “Truth” not only on Tithing, but on many other subjects that are not easily understood in the Bible. You will be hearing from me on some other sugjects – soon, I pray. May God Bless and keep all of us, through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior!

Sister Lessie, I must say that this was an uplifting and motivating piece you done on tithing. This really shuts down many of the arguments some of these Charlatans bring to the table. Thank you.

Lessie,
Thank you for the insites and of course your candor on this controversial subject. I belive in tithing and free will giving as an offering to the Lord. I am thankful to God that you not only gave your “opinion”, but the Word of God as final authority reference.

Sis Lessie, yes tithing is something I was confused about after hearing so many different views, but God has since shed some light about tithing and offerings to me. Since God provides everything we need I believe the purpose of the 10% tithing is what God shows us, as an example, to give to the work of the Ministry, otherwise the priests would have to neglect their duties to find work, to feed their families even today. It may even lead them to do unlawful things for these needs. Jesus says “Love one another as I have loved you and the greatest of these is Love, so therefore it isn’t about money, but Love. I do believe your mother, even though she was poor, was a very rich woman in spirit. I believe she loved God deeply and may have experienced and received all her blessings and riches, and maybe even some unseen, not in the form of money, but Love. I believe your mother’s ship will be visible to all in the Kingdom of God. Generously give and serve as Jesus did for us. Thank you and God bless

Hi Lessie! I enjoyed the article and now have a new prospective on tithing after reading it. I always had a guilt feeling when I can’t tithe especially through the hard economy we all are going through now. Believe me when I do have extra I do give more than the 10 %. Just want to thank God for having you send me this email because lately I have been worried about not always being able to give.

Hi Lessie,
I got a little behind on my email, so I am just now reading your article on tithing. I agree with your writing hold heartily. I came to this conclusion maybe years ago and no longer allow ministers to influence what I give to the church. I believe the Lord will guide us on how to live our lives. We will give what we can, and not worry about what the preacher has agreed upon to finance their program.
Thanks for the article.
Continue being a blessing,
Love,
Sadie
